Purple Lilly by back2root Purple Lilly by back2root
I carved this Lilly just for a bit of fun really and to have a go at doing something different. It was approximately 2' long, and was constructed out of Tulip wood (Poplar) for the stem(as Poplar has such a beautiful, Natural green colour to it), Purple Heart for the petal's and Bud, and Wenge for the Stamen (or, at least I think that's what they're called - The bit's that the pollen is on?). I always try to avoid colouring/Dying timber. If possible, as in this case I try to use the natural properties of the materials to create interesting contrasts in colour etc.

back2root, Keep at son. Well done. I'll look again. The thumbdrives made me smile; as did the photoshop work.

Not only are lilies my favorite flowers, but I love when plants/flowers are made out of different media (glass, wood, clay, etc...) This was carried out very well, its so delicate and the size is impressive - the subtlety of the curves on the petals is wonderful.

simply stunning! In school i had to build a wardrobe and other stuff like that. But the work with wood isn't mine... it's to hard for a small girl like me ;)

this really is amazing. very beautiful work! you should consider working on pieces of Body Jewelry, i know many people who ware exotic hardwoods for ear plugs etc. because its all natural and they prefer that to metal or synthetic materials. The quality of your carving suggests that you might be able to turn some AWESOME delicately carved plugs for people. I suggest looking into it!

I really like your thoughts about not dying wood, I feel the same way. Getting the right color can get expensive though, huh?

This is beautiful. It looks very lifelike. I had to look twice before I realised it wasn't a real flower.
