32GB USB Steampunk Heart by back2root 32GB USB Steampunk Heart by back2root
So it seems I have a slight addiction to using Cocobolo wood at the moment.

Here is my latest item available just in time for valentines day. Similar to previous pieces but a bit more complicated, which is always my natural progression.

I hand carved the heart from Cocobolo wood. I cut then bent an old watch back to fit the shape. Using recycled cogs and gears I created a small unique movement. I shaped some copper wire which I inlaid into the heart for a little bit of extra detail.

I fitted a 32GB USB drive inside which can simply be pulled out when required. It features a blue activity LED framed by a metal ring that shows through the lid of the key when working.

I have also given the wood a glossy finish leaving it more durable but also silky to the touch.

All the watch parts have come from damaged or irreparable wrist watch's that have been hand disassembled and then combined to create a true, miniature work of art.

This item is available to buy from my etsy shop [link]

Exceptional workmanship!  Some of your art is going to have to come live at my house!

What did you use to cut out the notch attached to the usb? It just seems to be cut using an extreamly thin saw.

If I had the money ;D Are these your most popular pieces? They always seem to go so quickly.

The longest a USB drive has sat in my shop is 2 weeks. The heart is popular but the number one spot is taken by my USB cufflinks. I suspect it is due to the fact that they were reblogged a fair bit after being featured on Engadget's website.

Oh neat. I like the hearts, of course, a cuff link isn't much my style... ;D Though wearing hearts isn't really my style either. I actually rarely wear any sort of jewelry any more. Took it all off when my son was a baby and just failed to ever put it all back on. Necklaces are too much fun for babies. ;P
